Deepavali / Diwali Celebration with HCS
Dress up, feast, dance and celebrate!
For the first time, the Harvard Club of Singapore is hosting a Deepavali celebration, and we would love you to bring the whole family. Expect Bollywood music, rangoli to make with your own hands, and traditional Indian sweets at an evening dinner. Nobody needs to know anything in advance.
Deepavali is the festival of lights, widely understood as the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Deepavali (the name familiar in Singapore) and Diwali (the name widely used across North India and globally) are the same festival. It falls on Sunday, 8 November this year, so ours is an early celebration.
What’s on
- Bollywood music and dance
- Hands-on rangoli art-making, with no experience needed
- Festive dress-up for all ages. Indian festive attire is encouraged but optional.
For the little ones
Children will enjoy interactive activities that introduce a new culture in a fun, accessible way, and sparklers if the venue permits. It is an easy first introduction for young children meeting an Indian festival for the first time.
Food
Traditional Indian sweets will be served together with a menu that includes child-friendly dishes.
Who it’s for
Families and anyone curious about Indian festivals, especially if this is your first. No prior cultural knowledge is needed, and you are welcome exactly as you are. It is a chance for our Harvard community to celebrate side by side.
