Cognac Tasting and Learning Session

Despite this event being just days from the Lunar New Year, some of our alumni cognac connoisseurs and aficionados alike gathered for an educational and fun afternoon at Hennessy’s cognac tasting and immersive showcase held in the ION Art Gallery.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from our Hennessy host and a glass of cognac before we dived into Hennessy’s remarkable cognac history, artistry and innovation.

The interactive exhibits gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how cognac is crafted – from grape selection to distillation and aging, including the nuances of grape varieties, aging processes and the art of blending. We had the opportunity to engage in lively discussions and ask questions, enhancing our appreciation for the complexity and elegance of cognac.

Fun fact: ever wonder what the most common acronyms VS, VSOP, XO and Extra Old found on a cognac bottle mean? VS means “Very Special” and that the cognac has been aged for at least two years, whereas VSOP means Very Superior Old Pale and the cognac has been aged for at least four years. XO and Extra Old mean the liquid has been aged for at least 10 years.

A highlight of this event was of course the tasting session, where our alumni were treated to a curated selection of exceptional cognacs, each chosen to highlight the diverse flavours and aromas that make this spirit so unique. We certainly left the event with newfound knowledge, cherished memories, and some of us even left with a bottle or two of our favourite cognac to enjoy at home!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended this event despite the short notice and it being so close to the Chinese New Year celebrations. We look forward to hosting more of such tasting events in the future.

Cheers to an afternoon well spent, and until next time!
