Harvard Club of Singapore Annual Dinner 2025
The Harvard Club of Singapore’s Annual Dinner 2025, held on 20 February at One Farrer Hotel, was a resounding success, bringing together more than 130 alumni and guests from across 9 Harvard schools. This event served as a testament to the enduring bonds of our alumni community and our shared commitment to fostering friendships, celebrating achievements, and giving back to our alma mater.
The highlight of the evening was the presence of our distinguished Guest of Honour, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Gan Kim Yong. During his keynote address, he highlighted current geopolitical issues and threats, challenges facing Singapore, and emphasised the importance of strong governance and political system, and a competent Singapore government (including his team of new leaders) with a long-term vision to make sound decisions for the best of Singaporeans. DPM Gan also graciously stayed an additional 30mins to have discussions and photos taken with some of our alumni.
The evening was further enlivened by our Harvard Prize Book In-charged, Matthew Ong, who shared the Prize Book’s objective, i.e. to recognise students who have demonstrated a key attribute that is crucial for a healthy civil society: going beyond the call of duty to perform and initiate acts of kindness and caring for others. And a great way to showcase this was to have a testimony shared by a Harvard Prize Book student winner, Mathias Kon. He initiated a healthcare program in 2023 to serve nearly 2,400 migrant workers by teaching them self-management techniques such as basic physiotherapeutic and stretching exercises for their chronic occupational issues, so that those non-medical interventional strategies can improve their health.
The Annual Dinner also provided an opportunity for our President Welly Tantono to share the Club’s history, highlight the 24 varied events organised in 2024 and collaborations with Harvard partner clubs in Singapore, and solicit a call-out for alumni volunteers to be actively involved and help shape what we envision our alumni club to be. As a result, we witnessed sharing and discussions of ideas between the dinner attendees and the Club’s committee members and had committed volunteers coming forward during and after the dinner.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Dinner’s organising committee, sponsors, and volunteers for their tireless efforts in making this event a success.
To our alumni, thank you for your unwavering support and dedication in our Club’s shared journey. We look forward to seeing you at our next year’s 10th anniversary Annual Dinner!
